VDACS Ag Stewardship Annual Report
VIDEO LINKS Livestock Exclusion and Rotational Grazing Pasture Management and Alternative Energy Cover Crops and Nutrient Management Gaining Ground - In Their Own Words. A farming revolution is spreading across Virginia. Crop producers are switching to continuous no-till systems; livestock farmers are switching to rotational grazing. Both approaches save the farmer time and money. They also benefit the land, restoring soil health and dramatically cutting runoff and erosion. The net result is more profitable and productive farms—and better water quality downstream.

agriculture programs ...Reductions in nonpoint source [NPS] pollution can be attained by reducing
activities that produce NPS pollutants, reducing the amount of pollutants
generated by an existing activity and reducing the negative effects these
pollutants can have by controlling their dispersal. To that end, NPS best
management practices [BMPs] are important tools in controlling NPS
pollution and environmental contamination. While there are many sources of NPS pollution, agriculture is among the most significant in Virginia. Because agriculture requires many acres, its potential impact on water quality is great. Through the Virginia Agricultural Best Management Practices Cost Share Program [VACS], Tri-County/City SWCD can help you balance your desire to be a good steward with your need to remain profitable. Cost-share funding usually becomes available on July 1 for the following growing season. Demand for cost-share assistance can be great, so timely applications are encouraged. Our staff welcome your interest and often can assist you with the paperwork. In addition. state income tax credits are available for the purchase and use of certain conservation equipment and for specified best management practices. email or call us for more information Tri-County/City SWCD 1802 Augustine Ave Fredericksburg VA 22401 (540) 656-2402 (540) 656-2403 FAX
